GP-93 Wins ACHA Grand Prix Championship

Johnson-Wolfe Racing’s GP-93 Renagade, sponsored by Trafficade/WarningPower.com, has won the Canadian Hydroplane Association’s Grand Prix Championship. Driver Marty Wolfe only needed to finish a couple heats at Beauharnois to put his point lead out of reach. Having played it conservative in the last few races Wolfe completed Heat 1A in second, but then let the boat fly in his second heat on Saturday.

Rocketing around a calm late day course Marty opened up a large lead. With Jimmy Shane (GP-7) in second, GP-93 came out of the last turn for the checkered flag when the coupler came lose letting the prop spin free. The 93 team came back to the pits, and with the help of other teams, including GP-88, found and fixed the break. GP-88’s own luck was not as good, a broken rocker and associated damage sent them home early. Wolfe was back on the water on Sunday and clinched the championship.
